Xherdan Shaqiri scores twice in Liverpool's win vs. Manchester United

Dec. 16 (UPI) -- Xerdan Shaqiri scored twice in the second half to seal Liverpool's 3-1 win against Manchester United on Sunday at Anfield in Liverpool, England.

The Swiss winger netted the scores in the 73rd and 80th minute of the Premier League clash, helping the Reds win at home against United in the Premier League for the first time since 2013.

But it was Sadio Mane who initially put the Reds ahead. Brazilian midfielder Fabinho chipped a beautiful pass into the box during the sequence. Mane brought the ball down with his chest before blasting a shot into the left side of the net, beating Red Devils keeper David de Gea.

Jesse Lingard hit an equalizer for United in the 33rd minute. He capitlized off of a Liverpool mistake for the tally. Romelu Lukaku hit a blast toward the Liverpool net on the play, but keeper Alisson hit the attempt back into the middle of the box.

Lingard came flying through slid in for a shot past the Brazilian goalkeeper for the tying score.

The score stayed 1-1 through the halftime whistle before Shaqiri erupted. Mane dribbled into the boc and attempted a cross during the first scoring sequence. The ball was blocked by the Red Devils defense and spilled out to the right side. Shaqiri came running in and blasted a shot past de Gea to put the Reds ahead 2-1.

Roberto Firmino got involved for his second score. The Brazilian striker received a feed in the box during that sequence. He used the side of his boot to slide a pass into the left side of the box. The ball landed right in front of Shaqiri, who used his left boot to rocket a shot past a diving de Gea and into the left side of the net.

The Reds face Wolves at 3 p.m. on Friday at Molineux Stadium in Wolverhampton, England. United battles Cardiff City at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at Cardiff City Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.
