Premier League: Liverpool beats Burnley FC 3-1

Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Liverpool beat Burnley FC by scoring three goals in the second half of its 3-1 win on Wednesday at Turf Moor in Burnley, England.

The Reds fell down 1-0 after Jack Cork netted a goal for Burnley in the 54th minute.

Then James Milner hit the equalizer in the Premier League affair. Striker Divock Origi received the ball in the box during the sequence. He then tapped the ball back out of the box for a trailing Milner. The Liverpool midfielder tapped the ball to his right before smashing a shot into the right corner of the net and beating Joe Hart in the 62nd minute.

Roberto Firmino scored the go-ahead goal for the Reds seven minutes later. Defender Virgil van Dijk picked up the assist on that score.

Trent Alexander-Arnold fired a free kick into the box on that play. Van Dijk slid through the box, sending the ball in front of the goal for Firmino to tap it in for a 2-1 advantage.

Xherdan Shaqiri touched in the final score for the Reds. Mohamed Salah tapped a pass around a defender, leading Shaqiri into the box during that sequence. Shaqiri used his first touch to send a left-footed shot into the far post.

"Burnley had a specific plan, to be really aggressive in their challenges and stuff like that, so each ball they won, even if it was a throw-in for us, helped them and obviously didn't help us mood-wise," Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp told the team website. "So I was really happy we could just adjust a few tactical things [at half-time], but I told the players I shouted a lot in the first half but I wasn't angry. I knew it could be a bit rusty, that's how it is with a lot of changes, but now we are warm, used to it and we adjust a little bit."

"We could really bring Daniel into a different position if Div is more central and Shaq more involved in another space. If we could make that a bit more clear then we have immediately better options."

Liverpool battles Bournemouth in another Premier League matchup before hosting Napoli in the Champions League group stage at 3 p.m. on Dec. 11 at Anfield in Liverpool, England.
