Champions League: Bayern's Arjen Robben rips golazo vs. Benfica

Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Arjen Robben scored twice in the first half -- including a weaving golazo -- to lead Bayern Munich to a Champions League win against Benfica on Tuesday.

Robben's best score was also the first goal of the game. It came in the 13th minute of the 5-1 Group E thrashing at Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany.

The German striker had the ball on the right flank during the sequence, about four yards from the Benfica box. He dribbled into a cluster of three defenders before plotting the rip. Robben out-paced the first defender before splitting the next two. He then touched the ball outside with his left foot, clearing just enough space for a shot attempt.

Robben finished the sequence by curling a shot into the top of the far-post netting with his left boot.

But he wasn't finished scoring. Robben added another goal 17 minutes later. That strike was assisted by Thomas Muller. Robben stretched the entire pitch for that score. He bolted up the seam on the right side, blowing by defenders until being led into the box on a through ball from Muller.

Muller caught up to the pass and dribbled around defenders before blasting that shot into the near-post netting for his second score of the first frame.

Robert Lewandowski added a third tally for the Bundesliga power in the 36th minute. Joshua Kimmich received a short corner kick during that sequence. He then chipped a pass into the box, where Lewandowski was able to head it into the far-post netting. That score gave Lewandowski 50 career goals in the Champions League.

Benfica's Gedson Fernandes added a goal in the 46th minute but Lewandowski answered with another score for Bayern in the 51st minute.

Franck Ribery added Bayern's fifth score in the 76th minute for a four-goal advantage.

Bayern Munich's next Champions League clash comes against Ajax in the group stage at 3 p.m. on Dec. 12 at Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam.
