World Cup: Diego Maradona 'fine' after medical check during Argentina game

June 27 (UPI) -- Argentine soccer legend Diego Maradona gave an update on his health after he was seen being treated by medics during Argentina's win against Nigeria.

TV cameras frequently panned to the 57-year-old as he displayed the highs and lows of emotion during Argentina's 2-1 victory in its Gropu D finale Tuesday in St. Petersburg, Russia. The 1986 World Cup winner was elated when he watched Lionel Messi score his first goal of the tournament and put Argentina ahead 1-0 in the first half.

That elation quickly turned to grief after Victor Moses tied the game for Nigeria in the 51st minute. Maradona was beside himself with pure joy and ecstasy after Marcos Rojo pocketed the game-winner in the 86th minute. He was also seen flipping up his middle fingers.

After the final whistle, several men helped Maradona to a luxury box. Several medics then tended to him in the area.

"I want to tell everyone that I am fine, that I am not, neither was I interned," Maradona posted on Instagram, along with a photo of himself being tended to.

"In the halftime of the game against Nigeria, my neck hurt a lot and I suffered a decompensation. I was checked by a doctor and he recommended me to go home before the second half, but I wanted to stay because we were risking it all. How could I leave? I send a kiss to everyone, thanks for the support!"

Argentina battles France in the round of 16 at 10 a.m. Saturday at Kazan Arena in Kazan, Russia.
