June 25 (UPI) -- Uruguay's Luis Suarez whipped in a low free kick, giving his team an early lead against Russia at the World Cup Monday in Samara, Russia.

Uruguay led Russia 2-0 at halftime before getting its final score from Edinson Cavani in the 90th minute, winning the match 3-0.

The try came in the 10th minute of the match. Uruguay and Russia were scoreless in the Group A clash at Samara Arena when the FC Barcelona star stepped up for the free kick just outside the box.

Suarez ran up to the ball and blasted it to the right of a wall of Russian defenders. He hit it low, hiding the path from Russian goaltender Igor Akinfeev until the last minute.

By the time Akinfeev reacted to his touch, the ball was already well on its way into the right lower corner of the net.

Uruguay added a second score in the 23rd minute to double its lead.

Suarez scored the only goal in Uruguay's 1-0 win against Saudi Arabia on Wednesday in Rostov-on-Don, Russia. Jose Gimenez scored the only goal in Uruguay's 1-0 win against Egypt to open Group A play at the 2018 World Cup on June 15 in Yekaterinburg.
