World Cup: Mexico beats South Korea 2-1

June 23 (UPI) -- Mexico's national team defeated South Korea 2-1 in a FIFA World Cup Group F match Saturday in the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don.

The goals were scored by Mexico's forward Carlos Vela who converted a penalty kick in the 26th minute and Javier Hernandez (the 66th minute) and South Korea's forward Son Heung-min (90th minute).

The match set the attendance record for Rostov Arena Stadium -- 43,472 viewers.

Mexico secured its second win at the 2018 FIFA World Cup and lead Group F with six points.

Mexico's squad will play its next match against Sweden in Yekaterinburg, while South Korea is set to face Germany in Kazan. Both matches will be played on June 27 at 17:00 Moscow time.
