Russia defender Mario Fernandes received a pass from forward Aleksandr Samedov on the play. He took the feed into the right side of the box. Fernandes then passed back to Cheryshev about six yards away from the goal.

Cheryshev ran up and laced a grounder toward the center of the net. The shot went in between the legs of Egyptian goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy for the second goal of the match.

The Villarreal CF winger scored twice in Russia's 5-0 win against Saudi Arabia in a Group A opening match on Thursday in Moscow. He is tied with Cristiano Ronaldo with three goals in the tournament, leading all World Cup scorers.

The 27-year-old came on as a substitute in Russia's 2018 World Cup opener, but started on Tuesday against Egypt.

Russia scored off of an own goal from Egypt's Ahmed Fathy and got a score from Artem Dzyuba in Tuesday's victory. Mohamed Salah scored for Egypt.
