Fred: Brazilian midfielder joining Manchester United

June 5 (UPI) -- Manchester United has agreed with Shakhtar Donetsk for the transfer of Brazilian midfielder Frederico Rodrigues de Paula Santos.

The Premier League club issued a statement Tuesday regarding the acquisition.

"Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk for the transfer of Frederico Rodrigues de Paula Santos," the statement said. "A further announcement will be made in due course."

Shakhtar Donetsk also confirmed the move.

The agreement marks Jose Mourinho's first signing this summer. Fred, 25, is coming to Old Trafford for at least $63 million, according to the BBC and Sky Sports.

Fred has won four Ukrainian Super Cups, three Ukrainian Cups and is a three-time Ukrainian Premier League champion.

He began his career at Atletico Mineiro Academy before moving to Porto Alegre. He made his first appearances for Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013. He has eight international caps.

United battles Milan in the International Champions Cup on July 25 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.
