The Bahia goal scorer decided to celebrate after his successful attempt. It was not received very well from the Vitoria side.

After making the goal, Vinicius danced directly next to the opposing keeper. His teammates soon joined in before they walked behind the goal. Vinicius was making gestures to the crowd. The Vitoria keeper then followed him and grabbed him by the shirt, before both teams started throwing punches.

Nine players received red cards while six players had yellow cards. Vitoria finished the game with just six players on the field.

Bahia will likely be awarded with a 3-0 victory, as the match was abandoned because Vitoria did not have enough players to field a team.

Vitoria issued a news release on the conflict on Monday.

"Esporte Clube Vitória deeply regrets the incidents that occurred in the classic BaVi of this Sunday [18], in Barradão," the release said. "Bahian football is experiencing an irreversible process of professionalism in club management and the widespread feud, which marked the start of the sixth round of the 2018 Bahian Championship, is opposed to everything the club has implemented since December 2017.

"We inform that the athletes involved in the incidents occurred at the beginning of the second half of the game have already been notified and will be punished internally by Esporte Clube Vitória. Acts of violence are not justified and do not conform to the values of the institution. The club takes advantage of the opportunity to lament the attitude and attitudes of athlete Vinícius, from Esporte Clube Bahia. The player irresponsibly incited violence before the classic, through offenses in social networks, and during the game, with obscene gestures in celebrating a goal.

"The professional athletes of the two largest clubs in the state should serve as an example and Vitória will insist on actions and internal talks so that its representatives conduct themselves in line with the values of our institution.

"The club adds that its legal department is taking all necessary and necessary steps to preserve and defend the interests of Esporte Clube Vitória, especially in the spheres of the Bahian Football Federation and TJD-BA, including all support to the athletes involved in the episode.

"Esporte Clube Vitória reinforces that there was no order or direction to the athletes by the management so that there were sufficient expulsions for the game to be closed by the referee of the game. In its 119 years of existence, Esporte Clube Vitória has always been a reference for sportsmanship, fair play and ethics, and has never fought the fight in any competition in its centennial and victorious history."
