Premier League: West Brom fires coach Tony Pulis

Nov. 20 (UPI) -- West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis was fired Monday with the squad ranked No. 17 in the Premier League.

Pulis, 59, had been with the club for nearly three years.

Assistant coach Gary Megson will take control of the first-team until further notice, according to West Brom.

"These decisions are never taken lightly but always in the interests of the Club," West Brom chairman John Williams said in a statement.

"We are in a results business and over the back end of last season and this season to date, ours have been very disappointing."

West Brom had just two victories in their last 21 league appearances under From. The squad hasn't had a league win since Aug. 19. West Brom fell 4-0 on Saturday to Chelsea.

"We would like to place on record our appreciation of Tony's contribution and hard work during a period of transition for the Club which included a change of ownership," Williams said in the statement. "We wish him well in his future endeavors."

Pulis was named Manager of the Year in the 2013 season while coaching Crystal Palace. He also coached Stoke City. West Brom finished last season in 10th place in the Premier League. When Pulis took over in 2015, the team went from No. 17 to No. 13.
