Sept. 17 (UPI) -- French forward Ousmane Dembélé will miss up to four months due to a hamstring injury he suffered Saturday for FC Barcelona. Barcelona announced the specifics of the injury on Sunday.
"The tests have come back following first team player Ousmane Dembélé's injury in the 29th minute of the Getafe match," FC Barcelona said on its website. "Unfortunately, he has ruptured the tendon in his femoral bicep in his left thigh. The player will be operated on by Dr. Sakari Orava in Finland this week. He is expected to be out for between three and a half months and four months."
The 20-year-old made his first La Liga start in Saturday's 2-1 comeback win against Getafe. But he didn't stay on the pitch long. He left after the 25-minute mark due to the injury.
Dembélé joined Barcelona in August after the departure of Brazilian superstar Neymar. He joined the club from Bundesliga power Borussia Dortmund on a five-year, $125.2 million pact through June 30, 2022. He has a buyout clause of about $477.2 million.
He has two goals and three assists in seven games this year for Dortmund, France and Barcelona. Dembélé assisted Luis Suarez last weekend in Barca's win against Sepanyol.
Barca trailed 1-0 Saturday before getting goals from substitutes Denis Suarez and Paulinho. The Spanish club battles Elbar Tuesday at Camp Nou.
