Ousmane Dembélé: Striker agrees to deal with Barcelona

Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Borussia Dortmund has accepted FC Barcelona's bid for striker Ousmane Dembélé.

The French star will wear No. 11 at Camp Nou. Neymar, Barca's former No. 11, agreed to leave the club in July when he joined Paris Saint-Germain.

Dembélé, 20, joined the Spanish club on a five-year deal for a fee of $125.2 million. The contract is good through June 30, 2022. Barcelona announced the signing on Friday.

Dembélé made his Ligue 1 debut in 2014 at 17-years-old for Rennes. He joined Borussia Dortmund in 2016. In two seasons since turning pro, Dembélé has 22 goals and 25 assists in 78 games. He was named the 2016-2017 Bundesliga Rookie of the Season.

His buyout clause with Barcelona is $477.2 million, according to the club.

"Visca Barça, Visca Catalunya" Dembélé tweeted Friday afternoon.

Borussia Dortmund also released a statement on the transaction.

"This is the today's agreement of both clubs in principle," the club said. "The FCB will pay BVB a fixed transfer compensation in the amount of EUR 105.0 m. [one hundred and five million euros]. Moreover and in addition the parties agreed contingent payments up to the maximum amount equivalent to approx. 40% of the amount of the fixed transfer compensation."

"The contractual documentation of today's agreement shall follow immediately. The formal handling of the transfer is however still subject to the successful completion of the medical examination of the player at FCB, the player signing a termination agreement with BVB, an agreement on the player's personal terms with FCB as well as the transfer being matched and authorized in accordance with the provisions of the FIFA Transfer Matching System [FIFA TMS] until August 31st, 2017 [end of FIFA summer 2017 transfer window] by latest."

Dembélé had two goals and two assists through five games for club and country this year. He had 11 goals and 20 assists in 40 games last season.

"Dembélé gives us width, something we lost and we needed," Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde said in a news conference after the agreement.

"He can play left or right, or even through the middle, he is quick and he is technically good. We hope he's going to add a lot to the team. We're really excited to have him."

The club announced that Dembélé will land in Barcelona on Sunday and sign his contract on Monday. He will also be officially presented on Monday and have a press conference.
