Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Hamburg SV's Nicolai Müller went from joy to agony recently, hurting his knee after scoring a goal in a soccer match.

Müller, 29, received a pass in the eighth minute of the showdown against Augsburg Saturday at Volksparkstadion in Germany. Walace swept the cross over from the far post to find his teammate.

Müller took the cross down with a low volley toward the near post. The shot barely beat keeper Marwin Hitz to put Hamburg up 1-0

He then ran to the left corner, before twirling for a 360-degree turn. Müller wrapped up his cheer with a leap. But he landed in agony. He clutched his right knee for a few seconds before his teammates stopped hugging him and realized something was wrong.

They quickly called over the team's training staff.

"It's a real shame," Hamburg manager Markus Gisdol told reporters after the match. "I've never seen that happen before. He twisted his knee. We're still awaiting a diagnosis."

Müller subbed out of the game shortly after the sequence. Hamburg took a 1-0 victory out of its first Bundesliga matchup of the season.

"We are upset about the result as we deserved at least a point," Augsburg manager Manuel Baum said after the match, according to the team website.

"We just have to pat ourselves down and get over it. We didn't defend well enough for their goal but, aside from that, our mentality and performance were good. We just need to get the goals our performances deserve. There were lots of crosses into the box but we didn't do anything with them."
