Soccer fan knocks drone out of air with toilet paper roll

By Alex Butler

July 19 (UPI) -- A drone coasted by midfield during a soccer match in Argentina, before being grounded to destruction after a man hit it with a toilet paper roll.

The air assault came during Gimnasia de Mendoza's clash Sunday against Mitre. The drone was filming the Gimnasia stands before being caught in the crosshairs of an ambitious fan. The fan tossed the toilet paper directly at the device, striking it perfectly. The shot broke off one of the drone's propellers.

Mitre won the match 4-3 in a penalty shootout, clinching a sport in the Nacional B next season, following Gimnasia's Torneo Federal A defeat.

Earlier this year, another odd drone sequence went down during a soccer match. A man rode on a large flying vehicle to deliver the game ball during the Portuguese Cup final between Benfica and Vitoria SC in May at Estadio Nacional in Cruz Quebrada-Dafundo, Portugal.

Luckily for him, he was not attacked by toiletries during that experience.

Pablo Javier Palacios, Yair Emanuel Marin and Santiago Dominguez scored for Gimnasia while Joaquin Quinteros and Saul Adrian Toloza netted regulation goals for Mitre.

Santiago's Mitre won the first leg of the matchup against Gimnasia 1-0 on July 9 in Santiago del Estero, Argentina.
