July 1 (UPI) -- As you would expect, arguably the world's greatest soccer player had some famous guests and a posh ceremony for his recent wedding.

Lionel Messi married childhood love Antonella Roccuzzo Friday at the City Center in Rosario, Santa Fe in Argentina.

Gerald Piqué and wife Shakira attended the swanky event. More than 250 guests watched the ceremony, according to People.

Messi, 30, met Roccuzzo, 29, as a child in Argentina. The duo has two sons: Thiago (4) and Mateo (1).

FC Barcelona superstars Luis Suarez and Neymar supported their teammate at the affair. About 300 members of law enforcement attended and secured the perimeter for the gathering, according to El Paris.

Dani Alvies, Cesc Fábregas, Xavi Hernandez, Carles Puyol, Sergio Busquets, Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba, Samuel Eto'o, Sergio Agüero, Maxi Rodriguez, Ever Banega, Fernando Gago, Angel Di María, Sergio Romero, Lucas Biglia , Mariano Andújar, Javier Mascherano and Ezequiel Lavezzi also attended the wedding.

Argentina soccer legend Diego Maradona did not get invited. He told Sovetskii Sport that he still loves Messi.

"I congratulate Messi; he knows how much I love him, Maradona said, according to Goal.com.

"My invitation to the wedding was lost somewhere, but my attitude towards Messi will not change because of this. He is a good athlete and an excellent guy."

The five-time Ballon d'Or-winning groom had 54 goals this season in 52 games for Barca.

"Thank you to Antonella and Leo and the people of Rosario for your hospitality," Shakira wrote on Instagram.

The newlyweds asked guests for charitable donations to the Leo Messi Foundation instead of gifts, according to Goal.com. Wedding guests were treated to a menu featuring: charcuterie with breads and salads and Argentine dishes like empanadas, steak and sweetbread casserole, according to leaked photos on Twitter.

Messi recently ranked No. 3 on Forbes' list of the highest-paid athletes in 2017. He totaled $80 million this year, with $53 million in salary and bonuses and $27 million in endorsements. The Argentinian is also getting his own theme park in China.

Real Madrid star and Messi rival Cristiano Ronaldo did not attend Friday's fiesta.
