March 24 (UPI) -- Former soccer star Landon Donovan and SoccerCity SD are looking to name its potential MLS expansion team.

After releasing a list of 50 potential names for the soccer squad, a fan vote is now live on Facebook. The leading vote getter so far is "Footy McFooty Face." Following its more than 500 votes, is San Diego Surf, and the San Diego Bad Hombres. The original list also included: the San Diego Bolts, San Diego Burgundy, San Diego Burritos, and San Diego Stoners.

Donovan announced his stake in the team earlier this month on Facebook Live. The All-Time USMNT leading scorer came out of retirement last year to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy. The bid for the new squad is led by Mike and Nick Stone. Former Qualcomm president Steve Altman, San Diego Padres managing partner Peter Seidler, and Univision Deportes president Juan Carlos Rodriguez are also investors, according to reports.

San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer met with San Diego State University representatives Tuesday to discuss the project "Soccer City." The project aims for a 30,000 seat soccer stadium on the site of Qualcomm Stadium. SoccerCity SD also plans to let fans vote on team colors, its logo, and its uniforms.
