MADRID, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- There isn't any love lost about Michael Owens comments regarding former Real Madrid teammate Ronaldo Nazario.

On Saturday, the duo was reunited to honor Ballon d'Or recipient Cristiano Ronaldo at Santiago Bernabeu. After the ceremony, Owen posted on social media: "I thought I was putting the pounds on until I saw my old mate Ronnie!"

Ronaldo did not take kindly to the comment, saying at Monday's FIFA ceremony, via Goal.com: "I am shocked as to how much importance my weight garners in the world we live in. I don't know why it is so important, to be honest."

"I don't like these type of jokes. Ronaldo is a very good friend of mine and we have to be careful. The thing about Ronaldo is not about his body, it's his heart, he has a very big heart," fellow teammate Roberto Carlos told AS.

The elder Ronaldo won the Ballon d'Or in 1997 and 2002. Cristiano has now won it four times. Owen won the award in 2001.
