KANSAS CITY, Miss., Jan. 13 (UPI) -- A scintillating striker will be shooting in Kansas City this season.

Sydney Leroux, 25, was traded from the Western New York Flash to FC Kansas City Tuesday. FC Kansas City traded forward Jessica McDonald, a 2017 second-round draft pick, and an international roster spot to Western New York for Leroux, according to FCKansasCity.com.

"Although we certainly don't like losing draft picks, it was important for us to get this trade done without losing any of our current players," Director of Soccer Operations and General Manager Huw Williams told the team website. "So we are thrilled to add two dynamic players to our squad without any deletions."

FC Kansas City had acquired Tiffany McCarty and McDonald from the Houston Dash for a first-round pick in the 2016 NWSL College Draft and an international roster spot, before the deal for Leroux.

"We are very excited to add one of the most energetic strikers in the world to our team," Williams told FCKansasCity.com. "We think her abilities will blend very well with our system and anticipate that she will be an important cog in helping us attain our goal for the three-peat."

Leroux has played on four NWSL teams in four seasons. She has 75 caps and 35 goals for the USWNT. Last season, Leroux scored once in three games for Western New York. She had 16 scores in the first two NWSL seasons for the Boston Breakers and Seattle.

I'm thrilled to be playing in Kansas City, a place that my husband and I call home," Leroux told FCKansasCity.com. "FC Kansas City is an organization with a history of excellence and fans who are passionate and loyal. I couldn't be more excited to join FCKC as we work towards a third consecutive NWSL championship."
