MIAMI, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Word of a long-awaited stadium deal isn't the only exciting news coming out of Miami from David Beckham's camp.

The soccer legend reportedly believes England captain and Manchester United star Wayne Rooney would be "perfect to spearhead" his plan to launch the MLS franchise in 2018, according to the Daily Star.

Rooney, 29, is interested in "moving to the states with his family," according to the report.

In an interview with the Seattle Times, Rooney didn't rule out a move to the United States.

"I'm obviously concentrating on Manchester United," Rooney told the Seattle Times. "When that time comes, that'll be something I'd think about. [I'll] sit down with my wife and children and decide if it would be right for me."

Beckham's Miami squad is expected to kick off in 2018, while Rooney is under a four-year, $104 deal with Manchester United that expires in June of 2019.

The stadium for the team is planned to be built on the Orange Bowl site near Marlins Park.

Several MLS teams have courted international stars recently, including, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, and Andrea Pirlo.
