Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Los Angeles Kings forward Austin Wagner scored a goal after a crafty pass from defenseman Derek Forbort on Monday night against the Washington Capitals.

Kings winger Kyle Clifford fired a shot near the blue line that bounced off the boards behind Capitals goalie Pheonix Copley. Forbort grabbed the puck and dished a between-the-legs pass into the crease.

Wagner received the puck and quickly deposited it past Copley to tie the game at 1-1 in the first period.

The Capitals went on to defeat the Kings 6-4 behind red-hot forward Evgeny Kuznetsov, who had four points in Monday's win.

Wagner had two scores against Washington, bringing his season total to seven goals. He has 12 points (seven goals, five assists) this season.

Forbort finished with the lone assist and has 10 points (one goal, nine assists) in the 2018-19 campaign.

The Kings (23-28-5) have 51 points this season, tied with the Anaheim Ducks for the lowest in the Western Conference. Washington (31-18-7) is No. 6 in the Eastern Conference with 69 points.
