Feb. 11 (UPI) -- The Montreal Canadiens acquired forward Nate Thompson in a trade with the Los Angeles Kings, both teams announced Monday.

The Kings sent Thompson and a fifth-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft (via Arizona) for a fourth-round selection in the upcoming draft (via Calgary).

Thompson is in the final season of a two-year contract and can become an unrestricted free agent July 1.

Thompson posted six points (four goals, two assists) in 53 games with the Kings this season. Los Angeles originally acquired Thompson, along with Dion Phaneuf, from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for Marian Gaborik and Nick Shore on Feb. 13, 2018.

The Boston Bruins drafted the 34-year-old center in the sixth round of the 2003 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut with the team in the 2006-07 season.

Thompson spent time with the New York Islanders, Tampa Bay Lightning, Anaheim Ducks, Senators and Kings.

The veteran forward has 134 points (57 goals, 77 assists) in 672 career NHL games.

It is the second trade in three days for the Canadiens. Montreal traded David Schlemko and forward Byron Froese to the Philadelphia Flyers for forward Dale Weise and defenseman Christian Folin on Saturday.
