Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux showed some dangerous dangles against Ryan McDonagh before scoring against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The slick stick work came in the second period of the Flyers' 6-5 loss to the Lightning on Thursday at Amalie Arena in Tampa.

Philadelphia trailed 2-1 when Radko Gudas found Flyers defenseman Andrew MacDonald behind the Philadelphia blue line. MacDonald passed the blue line before slipping a pass to Giroux at center ice. The All-Star winger flew over the Lightning blue line before coming up on a trio of Lightning defenders.

He was able to split the first two before sliding the puck between his own legs in order to get by McDonagh. The Lightning defenseman flailed at the puck, but he came up empty.

"It just happened. I had speed, he didn't, so I tried to make a move," Giroux told reporters.

Giroux then made a sharp turn with his skate, facing up with Lightning keeper Andrei Vasilevskiy. He slid in front of the goal before flipping in a shot at the back post for his 13th score of the season.

Michael Raffl scored the Flyers' first goal of the bout. Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point each scored first period goals for the Lightning.

Steven Stamkos scored two goals and had two assists in the win. Giroux also had an assist for the Flyers.

The Flyers battle the Florida Panthers at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla. The Lightning host the Montreal Canadiens at 7 p.m. on Saturday in Tampa.
