Caps fan sobs joyous tears after getting puck from Alex Ovechkin

Dec. 28 (UPI) -- A Washington Capitals fan was overwhelmed with tears of joy after she received a puck from superstar Alex Ovechkin.

Ovechkin made the offering during the Capitals' 3-1 win against the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

She was sitting behind the Capitals' bench with a sign reading: "It's my 18th birthday can I get a puck?" She was also sporting a Tom Wilson jersey.

Ovechkin put a puck on his stick during the pregame and tossed it up to the woman. A man nearby hugged the woman as she covered her face to wipe away her tears.

Chandler Stephenson went on to register the first goal for the Capitals in the second period of the triumph. Ovechkin helped to assist the second goal, scored by T.J. Oshie. Sebastian Aho and John Carlson each added scores in the third period. of the win.

The Capitals take on the Ottawa Senators at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Ovechkin leads the National Hockey League with 29 goals and 21 even strength goals this season.
