Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Andrei Vasilevskiy pulled off an incredible leg save to deny Connor McDavid of a score during the Tampa Bay Lightning's win against the Edmonton Oilers.

The stonewall sequence occurred in the final seconds of the first period during the Lightning's 6-3 victory on Saturday at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

The Oilers picked up the puck on defense before skating in transition. McDavid picked up a long pass for a breakaway while being defended by Ryan McDonagh. He flew by the defenseman and in front of Vasilevskiy before attempting a shot toward the left side of the goal.

But Vasilevskiy was not having it. The agile net-minder crashed to the ice and went to his right side. He swung his legs and got just enough of the puck to deny McDavid of the score.

McDavid assisted Ryan Nugent-Hopkins for the first score of the game at the 10:15 mark. Steven Stamkos answered seven minutes later for the Lightning, lighting the lamp with a game-tying score.

Alex Chiasson gave Edmonton a 2-1 lead 2:50 into the second period.

The Lightning answered back with three unanswered scores from Nikita Kucherov, J.T. Miller and Tyler Johnson to take control of the game.

Leon Draisaitl added the Oilers' final score 6:17 into the third period. Stamkos and Johnson each scored down the stretch for Tampa Bay.

Vasilevskiy had 25 saves in the win.
