By Alex Butler

Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Hockey fans at a Hershey Bears game tossed 34,798 stuffed animals onto the ice following Riley Barber's goal for the Washington Capitals AHL affiliate.

The shower of toys occurred during a 6-3 win against the Binghamton Devils on Sunday at Giant Center in Hershey, Pa.

Barber secured a rebound during the sequence before blasting in a shot about 10 minutes into the contest. That's when the crowd of 10,046 rocketed the toys onto the frozen floor as part of CommunityAid & WGAL Teddy Bear Toss Night.

The items will be donated to more than 30 local charities in Central Pennsylvania. The team's previous record was 25,017, which was collected in 2017. The world record of 28,815 was previously set in 2015 by the Western Hockey League's Calgary Hitman, according to the Bears.

The Bears face the Leigh Valley Phantoms at 7:05 p.m. on Friday at PPL Center in Allentown, Pa.
