Trotz, 55, announced his resignation from the Capitals on Monday, just days after winning the first Stanley Cup in franchise history. He posted a 205-89 record in four seasons with the Capitals. He owns a 557-479-60 mark in 19 seasons as an NHL head coach.

He coached the Nashville Predators from 1998 through 2013.

The Islanders fired coach Doug Weight and general manager Garth Snow in on June 5. New York posted a 35-37 record in 2017.
