May 24 (UPI) -- Tom Wilson and Braydon Coburn absolutely threw down during Game 7 of the Western Conference finals between the Washington Capitals and Tampa Bay Lightning.

The melee occurred with about five minutes remaining in the first period of the Capitals' 4-0 win Wednesday at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla.

Coburn and Wilson first got into a scuffle with 7:01 remaining in the frame. Both players were assessed two-minute minor penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct for that scuffle. They left their respective sin bins with 4:53 remaining in the period and dropped gloves once again, immediately after swinging the gates open.

Wilson and Coburn grabbed each other's sweaters and Wilson landed a series of right-handed hooks before Coburn could retaliate.

The players then went blow-for-blow, with Coburn keeping his helmet on. Wilson was the more energetic fighter and he eventually punched Coburn so much that he forced his helmet from his head. He repeatedly struck Cobrun on the left side of his head before both players fell to the frozen floor and were separated by referees.
