The Boston Bruins added a name to their injury list on Friday when they announced that defenseman Adam McQuaid will miss the next eight weeks while recovering from a broken leg.

McQuaid suffered the break to his right fibula during Thursday night's win over the Vancouver Canucks when he blocked two shots during the same shift.

"Adam has been doing that for years around here," Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said Thursday. "He's one of the unsung heroes in that locker room. Doesn't get a lot of credit for what he does, the tough parts of the game, blocking shots, sticking up for your teammates."

McQuaid, 31, missed about 29 percent of the Bruins' games over the last five years, playing in 266 of 376 games.

He has one assist in six games this season.

Boston goalie Tuukka Rask is out with a concussion, and David Krejci has been sidelined with an upper-body injury. Krejci may return for Saturday's game against Buffalo.
