The Montreal Canadiens waived defenseman Mark Streit on Thursday, bringing his second stint with the team to a close just four games into the season.

Streit, who signed a one-year, $700,000 contract in July, did not record a point and was a minus-2 in two games this campaign with Montreal (1-3-0).

The 39-year-old Streit spent the first three seasons of his career with the Canadiens from 2005 to 2008, collecting 25 goals and 84 assists over 205 games.

Streit has 96 goals, 338 assists and 374 penalty minutes in 786 career games with the New York Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Canadiens.
