NHL: Ottawa Senators sign former Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Johnny Oduya

The Ottawa Senators signed defenseman Johnny Oduya to a one-year, $1 million contract, the team announced Monday.

The contract contains bonuses that could push its value to $2.25 million. Oduya could earn an additional $250,000 bonus for each of the following: top five in ice time among defensemen, top three in ice time among defensemen, play in at least 41 games, play in at least 65 games and qualify for the playoffs.

A two-time Stanley Cup champion with Chicago, Oduya recorded two goals and seven assists in 52 games last season with the Dallas Stars and the Blackhawks. The 35-year-old Swede scored a goal and set up six others while averaging 18:10 of ice time in 37 games with the Stars before adding a goal and an assist in 15 games with the Blackhawks.

Oduya has collected 37 goals and 145 assists in 798 career contests with the New Jersey Devils, Atlanta Thrashers, Blackhawks and Stars.
