The Arizona Coyotes signed forward Jordan Martinook to a two-year contract Saturday to avoid salary arbitration.

Martinook's deal reportedly will pay him an average annual salary of $1.8 million per season. He is coming off a two-year, $1.225 million contract and is three years away from being an unrestricted free agent.

"We are pleased to sign Jordan to a two-year contract," Coyotes general manager John Chayka said in a statement. "Jordan is a hard-working, versatile forward with good speed. He was an effective player for us last year and will play an important role for us this season."

The 24-year-old Martinook registered 25 points (11 goals, 14 assists) and 40 penalty minutes in 77 games with the Coyotes in 2016-17.

The Brandon, Manitoba, native established career highs in goals and points last season and ranked second among team forwards in shorthanded time-on-ice/game (2:14). He also led team forwards with 68 blocked shots.

The 6-foot, 202-pound Martinook owns 50 points (20 goals, 30 assists) and 58 penalty minutes in 166 career NHL games with Arizona. He was originally selected by the Coyotes in the second round (58th overall) of the 2012 NHL draft.
