NHL: Edmonton Oilers sign defenseman Dillon Simpson to one-year deal

The Edmonton Oilers signed defenseman Dillon Simpson to a one-year contract on Sunday.

Simpson, 24, recorded 11 points (three goals, eight assists) and 26 penalty minutes in 53 games with the Bakersfield Condors of the American Hockey League last season.

The 6-foot-1, 198-pound Simpson also played in three games with the Oilers in 2016-17, appearing in his first career NHL game on Dec. 8 against the Philadelphia Flyers. He averaged 10:53 of time on ice.

Simpson owns 48 points (10 goals, 38 assists) and 60 penalty minutes in 181 career AHL games over three seasons.

The Edmonton, Alberta, native was selected by Edmonton in the fourth round of the 2011 NHL Draft.
