The Edmonton Oilers signed defenseman Eric Gryba to a two-year contract extension on Tuesday.

Gryba appeared in 40 games last season -- his second with Edmonton and fifth in the NHL -- and had two goals and six points.

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Gryba was a physical presence for the Oilers, ranking second among the team's blueliners with 145 hits while blocking 47 shots.

A native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, the 29-year-old Gryba has registered 41 points in 258 regular-season games with the Ottawa Senators and Edmonton.
