Las Vegas Golden Knights trade expansion pick Marc Methot to Dallas Stars

Just a few days after the new Las Vegas team selected Marc Methot in the NHL expansion draft, the Golden Knights traded the veteran defenseman to the Dallas Stars on Monday.

The 32-year-old Methot was dealt to the Stars for goaltending prospect Dylan Ferguson and a 2020 second-round draft pick.

Methot had been selected by Vegas in the expansion draft from the Ottawa Senators, who reached the Eastern Conference final before eventually losing to the Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins.

With the Senators, Methot was paired on defense with Erik Karlsson, who won the Norris Trophy and was twice a finalist when the two played together.

In 68 regular-season games in 2016-17, Methot finished with no goals, 12 assists and 24 penalty minutes. In 11 seasons and 579 career games with the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Senators, Methot has 120 points.

In Dallas, Methot could be paired on defense with John Klingberg.

"He has proven to be a capable and steady defenseman that can play well with an offensive-minded partner, and he will add a tremendous amount of leadership and experience to our blue line," Stars general manager Jim Nill said of Methot, who has two years remaining on his current contract.

Ferguson was selected in the seventh round of the NHL draft last weekend by the Stars. The 18-year-old posted a 16-10-2 record with a 2.74 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage with Kamloops in the Western Hockey League this past season.
