New York Rangers' Jesper Fast has surgery on hip, to miss five months

New York Rangers forward Jesper Fast underwent successful surgery to repair the labral in his left hip.

Fast is facing a recovery time of five months, Rangers general manager Jeff Gorton announced in a statement Monday. The procedure was performed by Dr. Bryan Kelly at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

The 25-year-old Fast appeared in 68 games this past season, registering six goals and 15 assists while posting a plus-6 rating. He added three goals and three assists in 12 postseason games.

A restricted free agent, Fast is a candidate to be left unprotected by the team in the league's expansion draft for the Vegas Golden Knights.

A sixth-round pick of New York in 2010, Fast has 22 goals and 65 points over 216 games in four seasons, all with the Rangers.
