Pittsburgh Penguins rookie goaltender Matt Murray skated with his teammates on Wednesday morning for the first time since sustaining a lower-body injury in warmups prior to Game 1 of their first-round series.

Coach Mike Sullivan told reporters Murray will serve as the backup to Marc-Andre Fleury for Game 7 against the host Washington Capitals on Wednesday night.

"He's just taking the next step," Sullivan said Wednesday afternoon. "He's been practicing (on his own) now for a number of days and he's ready to take the next step and join the team. And so he's just continuing that process."

Fleury has posted a 7-4 mark with a 2.78 goals-against average and 9.21 save percentage in 11 postseason games. The 32-year-old permitted eight goals over his last four periods, including five on 26 shots in Monday's 5-2 loss in Game 6.

Murray, 22, recorded a 32-10-4 mark with a 2.41 goals-against average and .923 save percentage during the regular season.

Tristan Jarry, who has served as Fleury's backup in the playoffs, was not on the ice for Wednesday's morning skate.
