Pittsburgh Penguins superstar captain Sidney Crosby and fellow forward Conor Sheary returned to the lineup for Saturday's Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Washington Capitals.

Crosby, who was labeled as day-to-day, sustained the fourth concussion of his career on Monday when he was cross-checked in the head by Washington defenseman Matt Niskanen.

A two-time Hart Trophy winner and a finalist this season, Crosby skated in full gear on Thursday and was a full participant in practice on Friday.

"We trust our doctors and the process that they go through, and when they tell us that these guys are healthy and are cleared to play, then that's all we need to know," coach Mike Sullivan told reporters after an optional morning skate.

"The health and safety of our players is always the priority, and that will never change. But we trust our medical staff, we trust the doctors that are monitoring these guys.

"They know way more about it than the rest of us do. And so, we rely on those guys to monitor these situations and advise us the right way. So, I think that's the most prudent way to approach it and that's how we are."

Crosby has collected 11 points (four goals, seven assists) during the playoffs for the Penguins, who hold a 3-1 edge in the series versus the Capitals.

Sheary, who also sustained a concussion on Monday, passed his baseline concussion test and returned to the ice on Saturday night. The 24-year-old has two assists in eight playoff games.
