Kyle Turris' second effort lifts Ottawa Senators to OT win vs. New York Rangers

OTTAWA -- Kyle Turris scored at 6:28 of overtime to give the Ottawa Senators a come-from-behind 5-4 victory over the New York Rangers at Canadian Tire Centre on Saturday afternoon.

The win gives the Senators a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinal series that moves to New York for Game 6 on Tuesday.

Turris' attempted first shot was blocked by a Rangers defender, but he was able to get control of the loose puck and beat goalie Henrik Lundqvist to end the game.

New York nearly won the contest two minutes earlier as Michael Grabner knocked a pass from Kevin Hayes out of mid-air at 4:12 of overtime. Officials quickly negated the tally on the basis of a high stick.

Rangers winger Jimmy Vesey scored his first goal of the playoffs with 7:12 left in regulation to snap a 3-3 deadlock on a play that needed to be reviewed. Vesey dove across the crease to swat at the puck, but it wound up in the trapper of diving goalie Craig Anderson. However, the replay showed that Anderson's glove was just on the other side of the goal line when he caught the puck.

As the extra attacker that jumped on the ice when Anderson rushed to the bench, former Ranger Derick Brassard sent the game into overtime with 1:26 left on the clock.

Off a scramble in front of the crease, Brassard batted the puck that went off a couple of Rangers before sliding behind Lundqvist.

Jesper Fast, Nick Holden and Ryan McDonagh had the other Rangers goals.

Mark Stone, Tom Pyatt and Mike Hoffman scored for the Senators.

Lundqvist made 32 saves while Anderson stopped 29 shots.

After being outscored 2-1 in the first period, the Senators outscored the Rangers 2-1 in the second.

Hoffman tied the game at the 8:17 mark of the middle period, whipping a shot past Lundqvist after a nice pass by Clark MacArthur on a rush started by Erik Karlsson. It was the third of the playoffs for Hoffman.

Just 33 seconds later, Pyatt gave the Senators their first lead since Game 1 when he deflected a side-board pass from Zack Smith between the pads of Lundqvist with his back to New York's net. It was Pyatt's first of the playoffs.

McDonagh knotted the count at the 17:49 mark, standing just off Anderson's right post to tip a spin-around shot by Grabner from the right wing circle. It was the second of the postseason for the Rangers captain.

The teams ended the second tied 23-23 on the shot clock.

The Rangers scored goals 66 seconds apart on their third and fourth shots of the game to get the early lead.

Fast notched his third of the playoffs off a 2-on-1 break after Chris Wideman pinched and didn't get back in time to pick up the trailer at the 4:07 mark. Brendan Smith drew the first assist with the set-up pass while Hayes had the second by starting the rush.

Holden picked up his second goal of the series and fourth of the postseason with a shot from the left wing dot that beat Anderson high on the stick side, off the post. Vesey had the only helper.

Stone cut into the lead on a strong individual play around the Rangers net just 50 seconds after the Holden goal. After Wideman's shot from the point, Stone fended off a couple New York defensemen to kick the puck up to his stick and, diving forward, slid a shot with this backhand that went off the post and barely crossed the line.

It was the third of the playoffs for Stone, with Smith drawing the other assist by intercepting Lundqvist's pass along the boards.

The Senators outshot the Rangers 15-10 in the first period.

NOTES: The Senators sat LW Ryan Dzingel to get RW Chris Neil into just his second game since Feb. 26. ... Senators D Fredrik Claesson was re-inserted into the lineup, replacing rookie D Ben Harpur, who has been in eight playoff games this spring ... The Rangers made no lineup changes ... To go along with his first period goal, Rangers RW Jesper Fast also had an assist. They were his second and third points of this series ... It was the fourth overtime game of the playoffs for the Rangers (1-3). The Senators have played six (5-1).
