Brad Marchand gives NHL trash talking clinic

March 21 (UPI) -- It's painfully easy to see why Brad Marchand is so popular with the fans.

On Monday, the Boston Bruins forward did what he does best when he added to his season points total and provided some great sound bites, despite his team losing 4-2 to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Marchand's assist gave him 80 points on the season, ranking No. 2 in points to Connor McDavid. His 37 goals are No. 2 behind Sidney Crosby in a quest for the Hart Trophy.

During Monday's conest, he got tangled up with Maple Leafs forward Leo Komarov. After the two were sent to the penalty box in the third period, Marchand told Komarov that he would send him a souvenir after the game.

"I'll send a stick over after the game," Marchand shouted from the box.

After the contest, Marchand spoke about the standings battle between the teams.

"They're not going to quit," Brad Marchand said, via the team website. "We know that, regardless of the outcome of the game, it's going to come down to a battle in the last 10 games here. So this game's over now, we have a big one [on Tuesday], and that's the one we have to worry about."

The banter took a polite turn, similar to an odd exchange last week on the frozen floor.

"It was just like, how's his day going," Komarov told reporters, via CBS Boston. "It was nothing brutal. It's a hockey game. He's a great guy."

Marchand was named the NHL First Star of the Week Monday after tallying five goals and four assists in three games.
