Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Ryan Murray is expected to miss four to six weeks after suffering a broken hand in Saturday's game, the team announced Monday.
The injury occurred when Murray blocked a shot in the first period of Columbus' 5-3 loss to the Buffalo Sabres.
The team said Murray underwent surgery Monday morning at OhioHealth's Grant Medical Center performed by Dr. Gary Millard. The 23-year-old Murray is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of the regular season.
Murray has two goals, nine assists and 24 penalty minutes in 60 games this season.
Murray, the second overall pick by the Blue Jackets in the 2012 NHL draft, owns 60 points (11 goals, 49 assists) and 82 penalty minutes in 220 career NHL games. In 2015-16, he collected a career-high 25 points (four goals, 21 assists), 40 penalty minutes and was one of three Blue Jackets to appear in all 82 games.
