March 5 (UPI) -- Washington Capitals 2, Philadelphia Flyers 1

WASHINGTON -- Nicklas Backstrom scored a power-play goal with 1:35 left in overtime and the Washington Capitals defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 on Saturday night, extending their franchise-record home winning streak to 15 games.

With Michael Del Zotto off for holding, Backstrom took a pass from Kevin Shattenkirk and wristed a shot past Steve Mason from the right circle.

Moments earlier, Mason (22 saves) sprawled across the crease and took T.J. Oshie's blast on his mask.

Braden Holtby stopped 30 shots for Washington, which won its third straight game.

Montreal Canadiens 4, New York Rangers 1

NEW YORK -- Carey Price made 26 saves to lead Montreal past New York and a three-game season series sweep.

Price is 15-5-1 in 22 career appearances against the Rangers. Only a Chris Kreider goal early in the third period stood between Price and his eighth career shutout versus New York.

The Canadiens, who received two points apiece from Max Pacioretty and Alex Galchenyuk, won their fifth straight contest. Henrik Lundqvist made 31 saves for New York, which lost three of its last four games.

Ottawa Senators 3, Columbus Blue Jackets 2

OTTAWA -- Erik Karlsson, Viktor Stalberg and Zack Smith scored as Ottawa rallied from an early deficit to defeat Columbus.

Senators goaltender Craig Anderson stopped 25 shots for his team-leading 18th victory, one more than backup Mike Condon. Blue Jackets goalie Joonas Korpisalo made 23 saves while No. 1 puck stopper Sergei Bobrovsky was given the night off.

Smith scored his league-leading fourth short-handed goal into an empty net with just over three minutes to play, but Sam Gagner brought the Blue Jackets close again with a power play marker 2:22 from the final buzzer.

Chicago Blackhawks 5, Nashville Predators 3

NASHVILLE -- Brian Campbell broke a tie with 1:05 remaining as Chicago topped Nashville in a possible first-round playoff preview.

Patrick Kane scored twice, including an empty-netterm as the Blackhawks won for the seventh straight time and improved to 12-1-0 in its last 13 contests. Chicago won eight straight road games.

Viktor Arvidsson tied the game 3-3 with 15:47 remaining with his second goal of the game and 11th in the last 15 games.

Edmonton Oilers 4, Detroit Red Wings 3

EDMONTON, Alberta -- NHL points leader Connor McDavid had a goal and an assist as Edmonton began an eight-game homestand with a victory over Detroit.

Andreas Athanasiou had a chance to bring the Red Wings level early in the third. The puck came to him off a scramble and he had an open half of the net to shoot at, but put his effort wide.

Patrick Maroon's 21st goal with 5:58 remaining gave the Oilers a 4-2 lead, with McDavid getting an assist for his 74th point. The Oilers outshot the Red Wings 38-25.

Boston Bruins 3, New Jersey Devils 2

BOSTON -- Drew Stafford capped off a productive debut in a Boston sweater, setting up Ryan Spooner with the go-ahead goal with 11:42 left to help the Bruins hand the Devils their sixth straight loss.

The win was the eighth in 10 games for Boston, which is third in the Atlantic Division. Stafford, the veteran winger acquired from the Winnipeg Jets at the trade deadline, had a season-high seven shots on goal.

New Jersey, which suffered another blow to its playoff hopes, tied the game 5:51 into the third when Kyle Palmieri took a 2-on-1 pass and beat goaltender Anton Khudobin. It was Palmieri's 20th goal of the season and fifth in the last six games.

Dallas Stars 2, Florida Panthers 1

SUNRISE, Fla. -- John Klingberg scored with 1:07 remaining to lift Dallas.

Jamie Benn had a goal and assist for the Stars. Tyler Seguin had two assists and Jason Spezza had one and goaltender Kari Lehtonen had 41 saves for Dallas.

Jonathan Huberdeau scored for Florida. Marchessault and Aleksander Barkov had assists while goalie James Reimer made 32 saves for the Panthers.

Tampa Bay Lightning 2, Buffalo Sabres 1 (SO)

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Brayden Point and Nikita Kucherov scored in the shootout to lead Tampa Bay.

Point scored in the first round of the shootout on a wrist shot to the glove side. Kucherov, the Lightning's leading scorer, faked a hard deke to the net while sliding the puck through Robin Lehner's legs for the clincher.

Tyler Johnson scored in regulation for Tampa Bay while Andrei Vasilevskiy made 31 saves. Ryan O'Reilly scored for Buffalo and Lehner stopped 31 shots.

Vancouver Canucks 4, Los Angeles Kings 3

LOS ANGELES - Ryan Miller made 41 saves and Sven Baertschi scored twice as Vancouver snapped a four-game losing streak.

The Canucks defeated Los Angeles for the second time in three games this season and won for the ninth time in 32 road contests.

Henrik Sedin and Nikolai Goldobin added goals for Vancouver.

Anze Kopitar and Trevor Lewis scored power play goals and Alec Martinez added a short-handed tally for the Kings. Ben Bishop made 17 saves.

Winnipeg Jets 6, Colorado Avalanche 1

WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- Blake Wheeler and Nikolaj Ehlers each recorded a goal and two assists as Winnipeg routed Colorado.

Rookie Patrik Laine scored his 32nd goal and goaltender Connor Hellebuyck stopped 22 shots for the Jets, who struck three times in the first period and twice in the second, chasing Avalanche goaltender Calvin Pickard.

Mark Scheifele, Ben Chiarot and Jacob Trouba also scored for Winnipeg. Colorado backup Jeremy Smith made 10 saves on 11 shots in relief.
