SAINT PAUL, Minn. -- John Gibson stopped 37 shots and Joseph Cramarossa scored as the Anaheim Ducks shut out the Minnesota Wild 1-0 on Tuesday.
Minnesota peppered the Anaheim net in all three periods, but was shut out at home for the second time this season. Gibson recorded his fourth shutout of the season while the Wild's Devan Dubnyk made 22 saves.
Minnesota won the previous two meetings of the season versus the Ducks, but fell behind early and were frustrated by Gibson throughout. The Wild failed to score on five power plays, coming within an inch of scoring when a long-range slap shot by Christian Folin hit the inside of the right post, sailed through the crease and to the side boards.
Pittsburgh Penguins 4, Vancouver Canucks 0
PITTSBURGH -- Evgeni Malkin recorded a goal and an assist in his first game since Jan. 24 as Pittsburgh blanked Vancouver.
Matt Murray made 29 saves for his third shutout of the season and fourth of his career. Malkin pushed his point total to 56 as he kept pace with others near the top of the league scoring race despite missing seven games with a lower-body injury.
Toronto Maple Leafs 7, New York Islanders 1
TORONTO -- Auston Matthews scored two goals, and Josh Leivo had a goal and two assists in Toronto's rout of New York.
Nazem Kadri and William Nylander each had a goal and an assist for the Maple Leafs, who completed a four-game homestand 2-1-1. Tyler Bozak and Matt Hunwick also scored for Toronto while Frederik Andersen made 33 saves.
Jason Chimera scored on a penalty shot for the Islanders, who are 8-3-2 since Doug Weight replaced Jack Capuano as coach Jan. 17. Thomas Greiss made 28 stops before being replaced by Jean-Francois Berube after the sixth goal.
Edmonton Oilers 5, Arizona Coyotes 2
EDMONTON, Alberta -- Leon Draisaitl, Matt Hendricks, Mark Letestu, Oscar Klefbom and Patrick Maroon scored as Edmonton defeated Arizona.
The win was the Oilers' second in the last six games as they seek to regain some of the momentum they lost after having the All-Star and CBA breaks less than two weeks apart. Cam Talbot stopped 23 shots for Edmonton.
Josh Jooris and Martin Hanzal scored for Arizona, which was 6-2-1 in its previous nine games. Louis Domingue made 28 saves.
Winnipeg Jets 5, Dallas Stars 2
WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- Rookie Patrik Laine recorded his third hat trick of the season, included the winning goal with 5:07 remaining, to lift Winnipeg over Dallas.
Laine's third goal was scored into an empty net at 1:02 and 46 seconds after Blake Wheeler's empty-netter made it 4-2. Joel Armia also scored for the Jets while Connor Hellebuyck made 34 saves.
Buffalo Sabres 3, Ottawa Senators 2
OTTAWA -- Robin Lehner continued his mastery over his old team as Buffalo came from behind to defeat Ottawa.
New Jersey Devils 3, Colorado Avalanche 2
NEWARK, N.J. -- Kyle Palmieri scored his 15th goal of the season and Cory Schneider made 28 saves as New Jersey defeated struggling Colorado.
The Devils improved to 4-1-1 in their past six games. Pavel Zacha and Andy Greene also scored for New Jersey, which is five points out of playoff position.
Mark Barberio and Mikhail Grigorenko scored for the Avalanche, who lost their last four games and 13 of their past 15. Jeremy Smith stopped 37 of 40 shots in his NHL debut.
