The Capitals honored Alexander Ovechkin before the game for reaching the 1,000-point milestone last month, and the veteran winger got in on the fun with a second-period assist to raise his career total to 1,014.
New York Rangers 4, Calgary Flames 3
Kreider used Flames defenseman Dennis Wideman as a screen and whistled a wrist shot past the catching glove hand of goaltender Brian Elliot to break the 2-all tie.
Edmonton Oilers 1, Montreal Canadiens 0 (SO)
MONTREAL -- Leon Draisaitl scored the shootout winner to lift Edmonton to the road win.
Al Montoya stopped 32 shots for the Canadiens while Cam Talbot made 22 saves for Edmonton, who snapped a three-game losing streak.
The Oilers had a chance right off the hop when Jordan Eberle tipped a shot that landed right by Montoya's pad. But no Oilers were within reach of the loose puck and the Canadiens cleared it out of harm's way. Montreal got its first chance a few minutes later when Alexei Emelin's one-timer from the point sbeat Talbot but hit the crossbar.
