The Chicago Blackhawks officially activated forward Marian Hossa from injured reserve on Thursday, and he is available for Thursday night's game against the Buffalo Sabres.

The 37-year-old Hossa, a five-time All-Star right winger, has not played since Dec. 20 because of an upper-body injury. He missed five games.

Chicago lost two games in a row and went 1-3-1 without Hossa. He shares the team lead with 16 goals and also has seven assists.

"I felt good," Hossa said after Wednesday's practice. "I would have loved to be back faster, but at this point it was smarter to wait (until) when I felt comfortable to come back. Obviously, you don't want to lose too much (time) if you have things going your way, but sometimes you cannot help it."

Originally Hossa was expected to return for Monday's Winter Classic in St. Louis but took a few more days.
