Ottawa Senators' Mark Reeds dies at 55

OTTAWA, April 14 (UPI) -- Ottawa Senators assistant coach Mark Reeds died at the age of 55 Tuesday after years of living with cancer.

Reed played with St. Louis and the Hartford Whalers. In 2007, he moved to a coaching career first with Owen Sound and then the Ottawa Senators. The defensive center scored 45 goals and had more than 150 points in 365 career games.

He led the Owen Sound Attack from 2007-2011 before moving to the Ottawa Senators as an assistant coach.

Fans and teammates expressed their condolences on Twitter.

Reeds was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago but was recently told it was inoperable.

He was hospitalized with pneumonia and died early Tuesday morning. Reeds is survived by his wife. Mary, and his two children Kyle and Kelsey.
