MIAMI, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Justin Herbert, Myles Garrett and DeVonta Smith were among the NFL players injured in Week 3. Those hurt in Thursday and Sunday games will be evaluated for their injuries this week to determine timelines for return.
Joey Bosa, Sam LaPorta, Skylar Thompson and Adam Thielen were among other NFL players who exited games Sunday because of injuries.
Herbert completed 12 of 18 passes for 125 yards and a score before aggravating an ankle injury and leaving in the third quarter of the Los Angeles Chargers' 20-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday in Pittsburgh.
Herbert, who sustained a high-ankle sprain in Week 2, said his ankle became sore throughout the game before "getting twisted up" again against the Steelers.
"I felt like I pushed myself and I couldn't go anymore," Herbert said. "I had a tough time walking on it, moving on it and pushing off of it."
Veteran backup Taylor Heinicke replaced Herbert. He completed 2 of 2 passes for 24 yards.
Herbert said he is "hopeful" he can play in Week 4. Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh did not provide an update at his postgame news conference. Easton Stick is the other quarterback on the Chargers' roster.
"As soon as I saw he got up, my plan was the first sign of any kind of limp, he was coming out of the game," Harbaugh said of Herbert. "I took him out."
Harbaugh said Chargers linebacker Joey Bosa aggravated a hip injury and offensive tackle Rashawn Slater sustained a pectoral strain. Steelers linebacker Alex Highsmith (groin), cornerback Cory Trice Jr. (hamstring) and wide receiver Van Jefferson (eye) also left the game early.

Crosby, who played 82% (61 of 74) of the defensive snaps against the Panthers, said the injury "didn't get any worse."
"It's just part of the game," Crosby said "Every time we go out there, I want to try to be out there with my teammates. If I'm 100% or 50%, it doesn't affect if I'm going to go out there."
Raiders offensive tackle Thayer Munford Jr. and safety Marcus Epps were injured and did not return. Panthers wide receiver Adam Thielen sustained a hamstring injury in the second quarter and did not return. He totaled three catches for 40 yards and a touchdown.

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Thompson's injury "was pretty painful" and he will be evaluated Monday.
"Half the pain or half of the frustration for him, I think, was he was trying to find a way to not come out of the game," McDaniel said. "And ultimately, it was pretty painful. He fought through it, but we'll get a chance to look at him [Monday]."
Offensive tackle Terron Armstead (eye), linebacker David Long Jr. (hamstring) and cornerbacks Kendall Fuller (concussion) and Storm Duck (shoulder) were among the other Dolphins players injured.
