Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Dallas Cowboys star Trevon Diggs, known as one of the best cornerbacks in the league, said he will be "back and better" after sustaining a season-ending torn ACL.

The Cowboys announced Thursday that an MRI confirmed the injury and that Diggs will miss the rest of the season. Diggs sustained the left knee injury at practice Thursday in Frisco, Texas.

"Thank you for all the prayers and I appreciate everyone for checking on me," Diggs wrote on X. "This is just God's plan. I will be back and better!"

Diggs totaled four combined tackles, three passes defensed, an interception and a forced fumble through two starts this season.

He logged 59 combined tackles, 14 passes defensed, three interceptions and a fumble recovery in 17 starts last season. Diggs led the NFL with 11 interceptions in 2021. He joined the Cowboys as a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Diggs was the No. 6-rated cornerback in the NFL this season, according to Pro Football Focus. He has the No. 4 coverage rating.

He signed a 5-year, $97 million contract extension during training camp.
