Chiefs coach Andy Reid 'doing well' after departing stadium in ambulance

Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, who was hospitalized after the team's loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, is now "doing well" and "resting."

"Head coach Andy Reid felt ill at the conclusion of the game," the Chiefs said in a statement late Sunday.

"He was evaluated by our medical staff in the locker room, and as a precaution, was transported to the University of Kansas Health System for further evaluation. Coach is doing well, currently resting and in stable condition."

Sources told ESPN and CBS Sports that Reid's trip to the hospital was due to dehydration.

Reid, 63, stayed on the sideline until the end of the 30-24 loss on Sunday afternoon at Kansas City's Arrowhead Stadium. He gave a brief address to the team in the locker room before he left in an ambulance.

Assistant coach Dave Toub met with reporters, instead of Reid, at the post-game news conference.

The Chiefs (1-2) dropped to last place in the AFC West with Sunday's loss to the Chargers (2-1).

Reid owns a 92-39 record in his nine-year tenure with the franchise. He is 222-132-1 in 23 years as an NFL head coach.

The Chiefs next face the Philadelphia Eagles at 1 p.m. EDT Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
