Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell confirmed Thursday the team is attempting to trade Pro Bowl linebacker Jamie Collins.

Campbell felt it was important to be transparent throughout the process, saying the franchise has met with Collins to communicate their plans to deal him.

The Lions are hoping to find a trade partner sooner than later, Campbell said, but the team hasn't put a timetable on the process. The coach noted that Detroit has suitors for Collins.

"Just felt like it was time for a reduced role and I have too much respect for him to do that," Campbell told reporters. "We felt it was time for [Derrick] Barnes and [Jalen] Reeves-Maybin to play more. This is really the reason why we're making the decision we're making. We're trying to move forward.

"... You don't want to hide from it. You don't want to sugarcoat it. You just tell it like it is because you can respect that. You may not like it, but you'll always respect it."

The Lions also signed linebacker Josh Woods to the active roster from the Chicago Bears' practice squad Thursday. The team put wide receiver Tyrell Williams on injured reserve and moved kicker Austin Seibert to the reserve/COVID-19 list.

"It's time for us to start to look at some of our young guys and allow them the chance to go out there and play," Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn said.

Collins notched 10 total tackles and a fumble recovery in back-to-back losses to the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers to begin the 2021 NFL season.
