Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Three of the San Francisco 49ers' four running backs suffered injuries during Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, with backup tailback JaMycal Hasty expected to have an extended absence due to a high ankle sprain.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters Monday that Hasty was ruled out for the foreseeable future because of the ankle injury. Hasty was injured late in the 49ers' 17-11 win over the Eagles and didn't return to the game.

Further tests Monday revealed the sprain, which typically carries at least a three-week recovery timeline, making Hasty a candidate to land on injured reserve.

Meanwhile, rookie ball carriers Elijah Mitchell (right shoulder) and Trey Sermon (concussion) have a chance to play against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night. Mitchell is considered day-to-day, and Sermon must clear the NFL's concussion protocol to be able to return.

"JaMycal is the only one that's for sure out," Shanahan said. "Elijah and Trey have a chance, so we'll see how this week goes."

Mitchell, Hasty and Sermon sustained their injuries within a five-minute span against the Eagles. At one point in the matchup, the 49ers were forced to use Trenton Cannon, who joined the team off waivers earlier in the week.

Cannon currently is the only healthy running back on the 49ers' active roster, though the team also has former Detroit Lions tailback Kerryon Johnson on the practice squad.

Despite Shanahan's optimism that Mitchell or Sermon could be available in Week 3, the coach said the team is bringing in veterans T.J. Yeldon, Lamar Miller and Duke Johnson for workouts this week.
